Text Link Traffic
There are actually many ways of generating traffic to a website. Search engines, link directories, article posts, blogs, and email campaigns have been used to generate traffic successfully for quite some time. It is very important to get traffic via a variety of sources rather than relying on only search engine rankings. What many webmasters don't realize is that if you have 1000s of link to your site, those links, no matter how obscure, will generate steady traffic each day. The more relevanent the text links the better the traffic will be for your bottom line.
The internet is like a universe all of its own, and every website may be considered like an island or planet within this universe. If every website is a planet, then every link on a website is like an express airplane ticket back to the website that it points too. It is no coincidence then that the more links there are on the web pointing back to your website the more traffic your site will receive. These links provide a direct route back to your website that may be seen by all the local traffic that this originating site receives.
What may not be as obvious though is that the quality of traffic will also increase. Why would any other webmaster put a link up on his site that effectively directs traffic else ware? What would be his motivation? If the idea of any website is to attract as many people as possible why then would he go out of his way to provide a link to his visitors that would take them away from his web site and direct them to yours?
A website is like any other business in that it needs to offer its clients something of value in order to garner their trust and earn their business. In the case of websites that value is seen as the content that it offers to its visitors. Links to other websites are in fact content! Why would a webmaster place a link onto their site that points somewhere else? They would do so because they perceive the information or content that is available on this other website to be of value to their clients and website visitors. By having the link to your site they are providing their visitors with access to more content.
Ok then so how does this affect the quality of traffic? This occurs when the target markets of the two web sites are the same or at least have common components. If both sites are targeted to the same people then they would both benefit from the same traffic. It would be like placing an advertisement in the local daily newspaper versus a specialized trade’s magazine. You want to place your advertising where the highest percentage of your target market is most likely to view it.
There is one more major advantage to using text links to attract traffic. The search engines use keywords to ascertain the relevance of content on a web page. By using text links the webmaster is in effect building more keywords into the web page which will then help search engines determine keyword relevance.
Using text links is still one of the most effective methods of traffic generation to date. Developing these links though time consuming has over and over proven to be the most reliable and economical method of internet marketing and will likely continue to be for quite some time to come.
